Help the School Age Program Feed Hungry Kansas Kids

The School Age Program at McConnell supports Food 4 Kids, a statewide program of the Kansas Food Bank, and they need your help. For many children, the hot meals they receive during the school day may be the best or only meals they eat on a week day. But what happens over the weekend when the school meal program isn’t available to them? Many of them will go hungry until Monday morning.

Food 4 Kids was established to help children who are not getting enough to eat outside of school on a regular basis. The program provides 5,000 of the state’s hungriest children with packs of food in their backpack on Friday afternoon to get them through to Monday.

A donation box is located in the Base Commissary. Items needs are:
• Peanut Butter (12oz jars)
• Crackers (Packaged in sleeves within the box, such as Saltines)
• Beans and Franks/Chili (In a pop-top can)
• Cereal (1oz boxes or bowls)
• Fruit Cups
• Applesauce Cups
• Raisins (snack-size boxes)
• Pudding Cups
• Juice Boxes
• Milk (aseptic pack boxes that do not require refrigeration)
• Cereal Bars or Granola Bars

For more information, contact the School Age Program at 759-6859. You can also visit www.ksfoodbank.org to learn more about the programs of the Kansas Food Bank and the issue of hunger in the state of Kansas.
